Small wild things, embroidered

In a collector’s drawer, small wild things are set out with care: a beetle seen from above, a butterfly with its wings spread, a mushroom in side view, a flower pressed on its stem. We drew nineteen specimens that way, from mushrooms and beetles to bees, moths, butterflies and birth flowers, and embroidered each one in its own colours, as clear shapes in a few threads so the stitching comes out clean.

Six lines

Mushrooms: the fly agaric, the golden chanterelle, the morel and the porcini. Beetles: the stag beetle, the jewel beetle, the rhinoceros beetle and the Christmas beetle. Bees and Honey: the western honeybee, the bumblebee, the honeycomb and the bee on comb. Winged: the luna moth, the swallowtail and the emperor dragonfly. Birth Flowers: the carnation, the sweet violet, the daffodil and the holly. Specimen Box: the Specimen Drawer and the Specimen Plate. The Specimen Plate

The Specimen Plate tee: 31 small wild specimens, from mushrooms and beetles to bees, moths and pressed flowers, set out across the back like a plate in a natural-history book, with a small embroidered bee on the chest. It is the one printed piece, in dark colours only. See the Specimen Plate.

Embroidered in thread

Every specimen is machine embroidered in coloured thread: on the front of a cap or a bucket hat, on the folded cuff of a beanie, at the centre of the chest of a heavyweight tee, a crewneck or a hoodie, or on the front of a cotton tote: twenty embroidered designs on 138 pieces. The one printed piece is the Specimen Plate tee. See the designs.
